The valley of Sóller and its villages

Sóller im Nordwesten MallorcasThe small town of Sóller is located in the northwest of Mallorca at the bottom of the Tramuntana Mountains, amidst a fertile valley and a beautiful Mediterranean landscape. Palma, the capital of Mallorca, seems very far away, however it is at only 25 minutes driving distance from Sóller.

A different and romantic way to travel to Sóller is by train with the more than 100 years old "Red Lightning", the train that shuttles between Palma and Sóller.

Sóller is a gem. The beautiful plaza, the main square, with the impressive façade of the cathedral of Sant Bartomeu; restaurants, bars and shops, the market hall and the crossing tramway, connecting Sóller with Port de Sóller, convert the Sóller center in an ideal place to relay and watch.

Sóller and the neighbouring villages are excellent for nature lovers and hikers who want to explore the surroundings and the mountains of the Tramuntana. And Port de Sóller with the beaches and the long promenade is only 3 miles away.

Port de Sóller

Port de Sóller (Harbour of Sóller) is approximately 3 miles away from Sóller and is nestled in the mountains of the Tramuntana. The almost circular natural bay with three small beaches offers the visitor a variety of restaurants, bars and cafés. Modern excursion boats depart (in calm sea) to the adjacent bay of La Calobra, the Cala Tuent and the Cala Deia.

Port de Sóller is a lively, but also charming and nostalgic place that not only invites for sunbathing and swimming, but also as a starting point of many hiking trails.

In recent years the look of Port de Sóller has changed a lot, much has been modernized. The promenade along the marina was extended, the demolition of the old military building was giving space for larger piers. A tunnel connecting the rear part of the village with the road from Sóller gave the chance to convert the first bay line into apedestrian area.

Today, Port de Sóller is an interesting mix of original fishing village and a modern, almost chic coastal town where both Nostalgia lovers and tourists alike, as well as adventurous visitors will find their place.

Fornalutx und Biniaraix

Fornalutx - Idylle im Westen MallorcasThe picturesque mountain village Fornalutx was elected several times the "most beautiful village in Spain". It is just 3 km away from Sóller and surrounded by extensive orange groves and olive trees, the protective mountains of the "Sierra de Alfabia" and dominated by the highest mountain in Mallorca, the "Puig Major".

The picture-book idyll of the village with the old wash house, still in use today, and the quaint village square with the old church, two bars, some restaurants and small food shops invite to relax and unwind.

Between Sóller and Fornalutx lies the small village Biniaraix with the small old church and the one bar with its unregular opening hours. Biniaraix lies at the foot of a thousand meters high mountains and is a well-known starting point for some of the best hiking trails on the island.
